A Little About Us and the Historic Madison Hotel
Garrett, and Jan really enjoy helping you have the Best Yellowstone Experience possible. We enjoy each moment we are in the greater Yellowstone area. You never know when you're about to see a Grizzly, Elk, Wolf, or Fox it could be anywhere at any time. Or when a thermal activity or feature will simply take your breath away. We do sell bear spray at cost About $27 in the Gift Shop for the protection of the Bears and your family. You can order this with your room, and we will have it waiting for you at the registration desk.
Jan and Garrett enjoy the out of doors and participate in off highway RZR riding in the intermountain areas of the west from Arizona to Montana (link to the UTV Video). We also have Street bikes and love to get out and see the country side from the road, a favorite drive is the "Beartooth Highway" HWY 212. Hobbies in our spare time range from fishing, hunting, photography, driving my Slingshot on the highways, driving RZRs in the back roads and sand dunes.
Jan manages the Gift Shop, finding it rewarding to help guests find a meaningful souvenir. When she is not in the shop she is on her Shadow 750, or her iPad, she maintains our Facebook page.
Garrett over sees the overall operation of Madison Legacy Corporation. When Garrett Has spare time he loves to cook, and cook he does, he has served so many great meals from his dutch ovens that we can't even begin to count. In 2006 he started a highly successful business "Garrett's Good Stuff" in Utah (Closed 2019) and Garrett's Good Stuff Montana, doing private party Dutch Oven Catering. Many of his customers were greatly saddened to have him move away for the summers in Utah. (He still does this in his limited spare time as time allows for companies and family gatherings in the Gallatin County, Montana.)
In 2012 Garrett's mother, Janet, and Aunt, Linda, reached a conclusion that they were ready to sell the business and retire. We made an offer to buy the business at the price they asked. Garrett and Jan retired from life in the big city and moved to West Yellowstone during the summer in May 2013, to work in the hotel and the shop to learn as much as he could. Financing was achieved through Celtic Bank and we made the purchase at the end of April 2014. In 2019 we moved from Utah to West Yellowstone for year round living, we simply love it! Who wouldn't love living here?
We have thoroughly enjoyed our first years of operating and are committed to continually improving this business for our guests enjoyment. Returning guests state that the improvements are appropriate, noticeable and increase their satisfaction. New linens, towels, High Def Direct TV, HD TVs, 4 new king sized beds, 13 queen sized beds, new plumbing and committing to remodel the older rooms and have them remain as historical as possible.
The Gift shop is continually being evaluated to bring in new and exciting items to meet the shopper's expectations. Tell us what you would like to see us carry in the Gift Shop and we will see what we can do to make it work!

About the HOTEL
The Historic Madison Hotel, located in West Yellowstone, Montana, reflects the rich history of early tourism to Yellowstone National Park. constructed and opened in 1912, the Madison Hotel began as a two-story rectangular building of simple log construction with saddle-notched corner timbering and a prominent front dormer with a Grand Wooden Stair case.
The original six upstairs rooms were warmed by a cut-stone fireplace in the downstairs lobby. Each room had a pitcher for water, wash basin and a chamber pot. Water came from a well across the street. The hotel expanded in 1921 adding fourteen rooms, a bar and a dance floor.
There was no running water until the 1930's. Today, the Madison Hotel has most of the amenities you would expect to find in a Historic Hotel. Log support columns and beams, wood floors, light fixtures, the stone fireplace, and many of the room furnishings remain original. Although not the first hotel in West Yellowstone, the Madison is the only hotel that remains from the early days of tourism in Yellowstone National Park.
